Two Oceans Restaurant — Wine and south african in Western Cape
The Two Oceans Restaurant occupies one of the most dramatic dining positions in South Africa. Set into the cliffs at the south-western tip of the Cape Peninsula, inside the Table Mountain National Park at Cape Point, the glass-walled restaurant looks out over the crashing waters of False Bay at the place where -- at least in popular imagination -- the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.
This is a restaurant first and foremost, not a wine farm. It does not have vineyards or a cellar. But it has earned its place in the wine tourism landscape of the Western Cape through an extensive wine list showcasing the region's finest producers, and a seafood-driven menu that pairs naturally with Cape wines. Since opening in December 1995, Two Oceans has become an integral part of the Cape Point visitor experience, seating some 300 guests across its dining room, outdoor deck and purpose-built sushi bar.
Fresh seafood is the speciality. The iconic Two Oceans Seafood Platter is the signature dish, and the menu extends through grilled fish of the day, slow-roasted pork belly, sushi platters, and a chocolate volcano dessert that has become a favourite in its own right. Expert sushi chef Sarawut Sukkowplang runs the dedicated sushi bar, producing tempura prawn and shiitake mushroom rolls topped with tuna and salmon. The wine list draws from across the Western Cape, giving diners the opportunity to pair their meal with Stellenbosch reds, Constantia Sauvignon Blancs, or Robertson Cap Classique.
The restaurant sits within the Good Hope section of the Table Mountain National Park, managed by SANParks. Visitors must enter the Cape Point Nature Reserve to reach it, which means the journey itself is part of the experience -- winding roads through the reserve past baboons, ostriches, bontebok and Cape Mountain zebra, with the dramatic lighthouse walk and funicular just steps away.
Two Oceans has been inducted into the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame, reflecting consistently strong reviews from the hundreds of thousands of visitors who pass through Cape Point each year. The restaurant is open daily from 11:00 to 16:00, with reservations strongly recommended between November and April when visitor numbers peak.
The restaurant is wheelchair accessible and offers both fine dining and casual options, catering to vegetarians and meat lovers alongside the seafood focus. It is a place where the natural drama of the Cape Peninsula provides the backdrop, and the kitchen lets the ocean -- and the Western Cape's winemakers -- do the talking.
