Cronier Wines — Cabernet Sauvignon and more in Paarl
Cronier Wines traces its heritage to 1698, when two brothers named Cronier arrived at the Cape of Good Hope aboard the ship Driebergen. Shortly after their arrival, they were granted ownership of the farms Olyvenhout and Champagne — land that is today known as the town of Wellington. More than three centuries later, Cronier Wines carries that name into the modern era, producing wines from the Wellington and surrounding Cape Winelands regions that honour both the historical legacy and the rich terroir of the area.
Based at Zomerlust Estate on Bergriver Boulevard in Paarl, Cronier operates as a producer-distributor with an eye on both the domestic and international markets. The company has built a portfolio spanning three tiers — a Heritage range, a Premium range, and the flagship Signature range — each designed to serve a different occasion and price point while maintaining consistent quality across the board.
The wines are rooted in Wellington fruit, with grapes sourced from established vineyard blocks in the warm, well-drained soils of the Coastal Region. The Cabernet Sauvignon draws from ten-year-old blocks, delivering ripe black fruit and a structured mouthfeel. The Pinotage — South Africa's signature grape — comes from similarly mature vineyards and is also offered in a Coffee Pinotage expression that has found popularity in export markets. The Chardonnay has earned particular distinction, with the 2023 vintage winning Double Gold at the Gilbert and Gaillard International Awards.
Beyond the classic varietals, Cronier produces a Sauvignon Blanc with ripe gooseberry and litchi character, a dry Rose, and a range of Natural Sweet wines in both white and rose styles that cater to the growing demand for lighter, fruit-forward drinking. The breadth of the portfolio reflects a pragmatic approach to winemaking — one that values accessibility and broad appeal without sacrificing the quality that has earned international recognition.
Cronier Wines participates actively in international trade shows, including Wine Paris, and distributes to connoisseurs globally. It is a brand that bridges the old and the new — a Huguenot surname on a modern label, Wellington fruit in a global glass.
