Stellenview Premium Wines — Cabernet Sauvignon and more in Stellenbosch
Established in 2010
Stellenview Premium Wines occupies the northernmost slopes of Devon Valley in Stellenbosch, one of South Africa's most celebrated wine addresses. The estate is the creation of Reino Kruger, a winemaker and entrepreneur whose two decades of experience across three continents shaped a singular vision: to produce wines that punch well above their price point, without ever compromising on quality.
Kruger studied Oenology and Viticulture at Stellenbosch University, adding Genetics and Biochemistry to his qualifications before taking his first professional role as Head Winemaker at Daschbosch Winery in Rawsonville. He refined his craft further through an internship at La Crema Winery in Napa Valley, California, and a stint as Project Winemaker for Direct Wines in St Tropez, France. These international experiences gave him a deep appreciation for both Old World elegance and New World approachability, a philosophy that runs through every Stellenview bottle.
Returning to the Cape, Kruger partnered with multinational company OGH to establish Stellenview Premium Wines on Blumberg Drive in Devon Valley. The partnership combined Kruger's winemaking expertise with OGH's global distribution network, and the results have been remarkable: Stellenview wines are now available in over forty countries, making it one of the most widely exported boutique producers in the Stellenbosch region.
The portfolio is arranged across several distinct ranges, each with its own identity. The Kruger Family Reserve sits at the pinnacle, representing Reino's most personal expression of Stellenbosch terroir. The Cape Five Reserve range showcases premium single-varietal wines that have earned consistent recognition at international competitions. The Great Five Collection pays homage to the majestic Big Five of the African bush, with each wine crafted to capture the vibrant spirit of the continent. The Africa Five range offers accessible, characterful wines for everyday enjoyment, while the Cape Discovery range was created to honour the spirit of exploration that brought the first settlers to the Cape in 1652. The Bonita range and Le Grand Domaine, a joint venture showcasing handcrafted premium wines, round out an impressively diverse offering.
Devon Valley's deep, well-drained soils and the cooling influence of False Bay provide ideal conditions for the Bordeaux varieties that form the backbone of Stellenview's production. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Pinotage, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc all thrive here, and Kruger works closely with selected growers across the broader Stellenbosch region to source fruit that meets his exacting standards. The winery's rapid international expansion is a testament to the consistency and value of the wines: in an industry where many boutique producers struggle to fill a single container, Stellenview has built a reputation that stretches from Europe to Asia to the Americas, delivering reliably well-made South African wine at every price tier.
Reino Kruger is the founding winemaker and Managing Director of Stellenview Premium Wines. He holds a BSc in Oenology & Viticulture, Genetics and Biochemistry from Stellenbosch University. His career includes Head Winemaker at Daschbosch Winery in Rawsonville, an internship at La Crema Winery in Napa Valley, and Project Winemaker for Direct Wines in St Tropez, France.
