Pink Valley Wines & Restaurant — Rooted in Stellenbosch since 2018
Established in 2018
Pink Valley is the first South African wine venture of the Oddo family of France. Father and daughter Pascal and Lorraine Oddo already held wine estates in Provence, Sancerre, Rioja, and Sicily through their company Oddo Vins & Domaines when they turned their attention to the Helderberg slopes near Stellenbosch. In 2018, they planted nine hectares of vines on the elevated hillside along Cordoba Road, built a winery exclusively dedicated to the production of rose, and opened a restaurant and tasting room with sweeping views across False Bay.
The singular focus at Pink Valley is rose wine. It is the only winery in South Africa built and used exclusively for making rose. The blend centres on Sangiovese and Shiraz, sourced from the estate vineyards where altitude and the cooling influence of the nearby ocean create the conditions for wines of freshness and restraint. Winemaker Petri Venter, who studied viticulture and oenology at Stellenbosch University and gained experience in both the Cape and Provence, oversees production with a commitment to quality over volume.
The artistic identity of Pink Valley draws on the work of South African abstract painter Walter Battiss, whose bold, colourful compositions inspired the label design. Each label carries its own personality, a reflection of the creative spirit that runs through the estate.
The Pink Valley Restaurant has become a destination in its own right. The kitchen serves South African-inspired cuisine with a modern, relaxed approach, and the terrace offers one of the most dramatic dining settings on the Helderberg — vineyards in the foreground, mountains and ocean beyond. Friday and Saturday evenings extend service into the night, creating a wine-country dining experience that is rare for the region.
The Pink Valley Pantry, a small estate shop, offers curated gifts and artisan products alongside the wines. The tasting room is open Tuesday to Sunday, with tastings available alongside the restaurant experience.
The Oddo family's international experience is evident in every detail. Pascal Oddo built his wine portfolio across four countries before turning to South Africa, and the Provencal influence is unmistakable in the elegance and restraint of the Pink Valley rose. The decision to plant Sangiovese — still uncommon in the Cape — alongside Shiraz reflects a willingness to experiment and a confidence in the Helderberg's potential for Mediterranean varieties.
Pink Valley is a young estate with a clear vision: one wine, made exceptionally well, in a setting that makes the most of the Helderberg's natural beauty. For visitors seeking something different from the traditional Cape wine farm experience, it delivers a focused, contemporary alternative rooted in French winemaking heritage and South African terroir.
Petri Venter studied viticulture and oenology at Stellenbosch University and gained winemaking experience in both the Cape and Provence, France. At Pink Valley, she crafts a single premium rose that bridges her South African training with the Oddo family's French winemaking philosophy.
