Brampton Wine Studio — Rooted in Stellenbosch since 2008
Established in 2008
Brampton Wine Studio is not a traditional wine estate with vineyards stretching to the horizon. It is something more unusual: an urban wine studio planted in the heart of Stellenbosch, at 11 Church Street, where the wines come to the people rather than asking the people to find the farm. The concept is deliberate and refreshing — a tasting room, tapas bar, and live music venue rolled into one, open late into the evening and designed to make wine approachable, social, and fun.
The Brampton brand originated as a Rustenburg wine label before being acquired by DGB, one of South Africa's largest wine and spirits companies. The name Brampton, like its sibling label Roxton, traces back to imported pedigree bulls — a nod to the farming heritage that underpins even this most urban of wine destinations. Under DGB's stewardship, Brampton has been positioned as an accessible, quality-driven brand where each variety is made by a different specialist DGB winemaker, with the team collaborating to ensure consistency in brand character across the range.
The wine range is broad and well-crafted. The core lineup includes a Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cinsault, Unoaked Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, and Rose — seven varietals that cover the full spectrum from light summer whites to structured reds. Sitting above these are the Roxton and Roxton Black labels: bold, full-bodied blends built around Shiraz, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. The Old Vine Red rounds out the range with a wine that connects to the heritage of old-vine Stellenbosch viticulture.
What sets the Brampton Wine Studio apart is the experience. This is a place to drop in for a glass and a flatbread on a Tuesday evening, or to spend a Saturday afternoon working through the range with friends while a live band plays. No bookings required — walk-ins only. The tapas and famous flatbreads are designed to pair with the wines, and craft beer is also on tap for those who want to mix it up. The studio is wheelchair accessible and open seven days a week, with late hours through the week that make it one of the few wine-focused venues in Stellenbosch where you can taste well past sunset.
Brampton Wine Studio brings serious Stellenbosch wine credentials into a relaxed, social, no-pretension setting. It is the antidote to the formal tasting room — and proof that great wine does not need a vineyard view to shine.
