Established in 1988
Beyerskloof was born from a love affair with Pinotage. In 1988, Beyers Truter -- then winemaker at the celebrated Kanonkop Estate and already one of South Africa's most respected red wine producers -- partnered with a group of wine enthusiasts to establish a farm in Koelenhof, a sub-region of Stellenbosch. The explicit goal was to create a property dedicated to producing Pinotage of exceptional character, and over the following three decades Beyerskloof became synonymous with the grape that South Africa calls its own.
Beyers Truter's credentials are formidable. He was named International Winemaker of the Year and has won the coveted Pinotage Trophy multiple times. His pioneering work elevated Pinotage from a misunderstood crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsault into a varietal capable of world-class complexity. Today, his son Anri Truter continues the family legacy as winemaker. Anri earned the title of Best Young Winemaker of the Year with the Diesel Pinotage, a wine that has become one of Beyerskloof's most acclaimed bottlings. Anri has been making wine at Beyerskloof for more than ten years, representing the second generation at the helm.
The wine range is anchored by Pinotage in all its expressions. The entry-level Beyerskloof Pinotage offers everyday accessibility, while the Reserve Pinotage and Diesel Pinotage step up in concentration and complexity. The Synergy Cape Blend -- a Pinotage-dominant blend with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot -- is a favourite among connoisseurs. The portfolio also includes a Cabernet Sauvignon-Merlot blend, a rose, and a white Pinotage, demonstrating the grape's versatility.
The estate's visitor experience is centred on the contemporary tasting room, which features an indoor tasting centre, a cosy lounge, and an expansive outdoor courtyard with views across the rolling Boland vineyards. Three tasting tiers are offered: Classic (R80), Superior (R110), and Grand (R170), each showcasing different selections from the portfolio.
The Red Leaf Bistro at Beyerskloof offers one of Stellenbosch's most memorable dining experiences. The restaurant is known for its signature Pinotage Burger and a menu focused on quality ingredients paired with Beyerskloof wines, set against views of the surrounding vineyards. Beyerskloof also operates a satellite wine bar, the Beyerskloof Wynbar, in the town of Stellenbosch. The estate welcomes groups of all sizes and offers private tutored tastings by arrangement.
Anri Truter is the second-generation winemaker at Beyerskloof, continuing the legacy of his father Beyers Truter. Anri earned the title of Best Young Winemaker of the Year with the Diesel Pinotage and has been making wine at Beyerskloof for more than ten years. His father Beyers was named International Winemaker of the Year and has won the Pinotage Trophy multiple times.
